Nouvelle Vague at JGTC 2011

Nouvelle Vague

This year's JGTC is the 34th edition of the festival. It is one of the oldest festival in Indonesia, and this year they invited Nouvelle Vague. They are are French musical collective that plays new wave and bossa nova led by Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux.  They promised something special for the crowd and I think they fulfilled their promise.  Lighting wasn't perfect but I think it suits their style and adds the mood to their music, and the performance was quite 'sensual'.

Polar Deer : Behind The Scenes

Polar Deer-22
Damian - Rara - Ai - Tania - Dali

About a week ago Tassa told me that Rara were going to shoot a video campaign for her newly founded clothing brand Polar Deer.  Since I have nothing to do on Saturday, I asked whether I could join Rara and shoot some behind the scenes shots.  I asked Rara and she said yes!  Firstly, Polar Deer is a clothing line focusing on hats, but then they decided to add some hoodies, t-shirts, and jackets.

Sierra Soetedjo

A few weeks ago I got a phone call from my Boss. Our office wants to do an exclusive interview with Sierra, a newcomer jazz singer.  I was called because he needs me to shoot some exclusive photos of her.  I was reluctant at first because this is the first time I had a photo session with a celebrity, but then he told me I should take a look at her photos first,

Behind The Scenes : Malca Photoshoot

@sasyachi and @destarissa

In the last post I told you how I got stuck again in the traffic on my way from Kota Tua to Epicentrum.  I told you I did a photoshoot in Kota Tua, I'm not the main photographer actually, I shot behind the scenes.  Because that's what I'd like in

Sometimes, when you're alone in your car, driving, random thoughts will emerge in your mind.
Things that you've done, choices you made, paths you took.

Kegou Footwear Photosession

My friend established a new shoe brand for men, Kegou footwear. He asked for my assistance to make a lookbook-ish photos of his products. This session took place in SCBD, it's quite hard to do photo shoot properly if you're playing cat and mouse with the authorities, since taking photos in SCBD is prohibited.

Hightime Rebellion at Provoke! in The Garage #9

Hightime Rebellion
If It's Too Loud, You're Too Old!

One day I got this broadcast message (BM) from my friend (I don't usually read BM's unless it's no more than one screen long), it says "Provoke! in The Garage #9, Jum'at, 21 Oktober jam 4 sore di kantor Provoke! Jl. Panglima Polim X no.16 Jakarta Selatan. Menampilkan Angsa dan Serigala dan Hightime Rebellion."  This message catches my attention because oe of the bands that'll be performing, Hightime Rebellion.

I watched and knew Hightime Rebellion for the first time in April in an event called "Potluck

Java Soulnation Festival 2011 Part 2

This is a continuation of my previous post about Java Soulnation 2011.

One of the highlight of the event was LMFAO, this American electro hop duo are the the the one that popularizes "Shuffle" dance in Indonesia.  Being one of their fans I feel the hype when shooting them :D

What amazes me the most is they brought the dancers from their music videos, it adds the overall

Java Soulnation Festival 2011 Part 1

It's been ages since I posted on my blog :))
Buut finally I have the mood to post here again :D

It's all thanks to Irockumentary who encouraged me to post more, thanks dude!

Ok, so last week I've been covering Java Soulnation Festival (SNF) 2011.
It's a festival of soul, hip hop, and RnB music, a lot of people came, mostly teenagers to watch their favorite artists live!

The festival lasted three days, during that time I shot about 1000+ frames, but I'll only show you all the highlights on this post, the rest you can see on my flickr page.

The first day, I got the chance to shoot Nelly for his performance.  Luckily I have an Press ID so I am allowed inside the photo pit, regular audience aren't allowed to bring their cameras to his show.  But, we were only allowed to shoot for two songs and we have to get out of the pit.  It's quite tough, because the lighting is quite crappy, I didn't get many successful shots this time :(

That shot was taken at f2.8 ISO3200 and 1/160 shutter speed.  Usually I limit my ISO settings to 1600, but this time

Bebek A Yayo, a Review

I am going to do something different this time.  I will review (sort of) restaurants in my current city, Bandung.  In this post, I will tell you about "Bebek A Yayo".  This idea come to mind when I invited one of my friend to eat fried duck in one of my favorite restaurant, "Bebek Garang".  Then she told me that I should try to eat in "Bebek A Yayo", she said that it's "bebek dari surga" (fried duck from heaven).  I laughed at first thinking she exaggerated the whole thing, but we'll see later =P.

Bebek Ayayo-6

Bebek A Yayo is located at Jalan Bengawan no. 67,  it's directly across Kafe Mata Angin.  Click here to see a map to help you out (google maps is your best friend :D).  The place is quite cozy, but as with most venues in Bandung,

Sondre Lerche at Java Jazz 2011

Sondre Lerche-7

Java Jazz festival is the biggest Jazz Festival in South-East Asia and perhaps it is the biggest in Asia too.  The is an annual event and this year it is held at 4-6 March.  Even though Sondre's music is not jazz, I guess the organizers invited him to attract younger audiences.  They are right, because the venue for his performance is full (it's even overloaded), the seats are full and there are a lot of people standing to watch him.  I have to get there one hour before his performance, the gates are not even opened yet but a lot of people are already standing by to get the front row.  When the gates were opened, I ran as fast as I could to the front of the stage.  I ended up kneeling right below the stage, 5 feet from him, haha.  The stage is not too high (about 3 ft) and no barricades.

He was alone at the stage, without his band, but he gave a fantastic performance that hypnotizes the whole audience.  I get the shiver when he sing "Say it All", all of the people in the venue sing along with him.  I think his live performance is more attractive than his albums, it's less 'experimental'.  So here it is,  Sondre Lerche's Photos.

The Upstairs at IUGC 2011

The Upstairs is a band from my high school times.  So it's quite nostalgic to shoot and watch their performance, haha. They are performing at my campus, ITB (Institut Teknologi Bandung) for the closing of IUGC. An event held by geophysics student. The lighting was quite good, so I have no trouble shooting.

The Upstairs @ IUGC (20 of 20)

Their frontman is Jimi Multhazam, he act like a standup comedian when he's on stage. The crowd laughs when he told his jokes. The Upstairs deliver an amazing performance and completely made my night!

Shopping Monk

These photos are taken during my recent trip to Surin, Thailand.  I took the shots when I visit the local market, near the border to Cambodia.
When I think of monk, I think of people who live in seclusion, far away from civilization, praying in the mountains (they do, actually).  But what I see here is a group of monks, shopping for merchandise, and supplies for their temple.
I find them to be very shy actually, especially the older ones. When I raise my camera, they turn their heads away shyly and sometimes I can see they're upset from their expressions. It's quite difficult to take their candid shots.
I was quite afraid to take their photo actually, afraid they would curse me or something. So, at first I took some shots from behind.

I always at the wrong position to take the shot, but eventually I find a good one, patiently waiting
