Java Soulnation Festival 2011 Part 1

It's been ages since I posted on my blog :))
Buut finally I have the mood to post here again :D

It's all thanks to Irockumentary who encouraged me to post more, thanks dude!

Ok, so last week I've been covering Java Soulnation Festival (SNF) 2011.
It's a festival of soul, hip hop, and RnB music, a lot of people came, mostly teenagers to watch their favorite artists live!

The festival lasted three days, during that time I shot about 1000+ frames, but I'll only show you all the highlights on this post, the rest you can see on my flickr page.

The first day, I got the chance to shoot Nelly for his performance.  Luckily I have an Press ID so I am allowed inside the photo pit, regular audience aren't allowed to bring their cameras to his show.  But, we were only allowed to shoot for two songs and we have to get out of the pit.  It's quite tough, because the lighting is quite crappy, I didn't get many successful shots this time :(

That shot was taken at f2.8 ISO3200 and 1/160 shutter speed.  Usually I limit my ISO settings to 1600, but this time
I have to push my camera to the limit and went to 3200.  If I didn't use ISO1600 then my shutter speed would be only 1/80, not good enough for me.

As you can see the ambient lighting is not so bright, so it's hard to get that "flattering" shot.  I guess this is how they do it in hip hop concerts.  I have to upgrade my camera (amen to that! :D ) to accommodate higher ISO setting.

This is my favorite shot of Nelly's performance.  This one is a lucky shot I guess, because this was taken at the end of his second song.  I took it while we were walking out of the photo pit.  The light is not constant like that, it just happened in a fraction of a second.

So this concludes my first of series of posts of SNF 2011, stay tuned!
